she is a best seller and sounds like she was a lovely lady.
She left behind an impressive catalogue of twenty seven blockbuster novels, most of them set in her native Black Country.
Her countless fans were saddened by the loss of such a well-loved and consummate storyteller.
Meg loved to talk about her days growing up in the Dangerfield Lane area of Wednesbury.
She was an amazing lady, full of warmth and wit, and very proud of her Black Country roots.
Born in 1933, Meg’s real name was Margaret Rose Astbury, one of five daughters brought up in a loving, close-knit family.
Times were hard and it was a constant battle to make ends meet, especially during wartime.
Yet, like so many Black Country folk, Meg’s family met troubles head on, and with great good humour.
There was little money to spare, so the Astbury girls made their own amusement, whether it was playing in the street or making
up plays in the back yard.
Meg admitted she was certainly no angel, back then, and was often up to mischief.
But, she and her sisters always stuck up for one another, and her kindhearted parents found it hard to punish their beloved broo
